Dueling Vomit

Did the title get your attention????

Let me explain it.

As anyone who frequents this blog (that's one person that I know of) can attest, I try to post at least a couple times a week. I have gone a little more than a week without posting. Why? Because both my wife and daughter were sick this week. The vomit flew when? Not during the day, not when the other was doing okay, but in the middle of the night, and one right after the other.

My daughter came home from daycare on Tuesday, a seemed to be fine. My wife had gone to the doctor on that same day for a sinus infection. Both of them seemed to be okay at dinner, and afterward. Around nine o'clock I took La Nina to bed, tucked her in and read her a story. My wife (henceforth known as "my better half") said her sinus felt menthalated for some reason.

About 10:30 we went to bed. My Better Half was having a hard time sleeping because, in her words, her face was burning. Around 1:00 in the morning, La Nina started crying, so I went in with her. She promptly vomited all over her bed and pajamas. I start scrambling to get a bucket, only to find it between My Better Half's legs as she was hurling as well.

I run and grab a wash cloth to take in for La Nina, get her face and hair wiped off, PJ's off, and bed stripped. After consoling her for a minute or two, I tell her I will be right back and if she has to throw up to do it on the towel. I run and grab another wash cloth to take to My Better Half, then run the bedding and PJ's down to the laundry and get them washing.

I run back up with a clean sheet, check on My Better Half, put the sheets on La Nina's bed, and console her some more. She falls back asleep, and I go check on the Better Half. She says she is better and thanked me for taking care of La Nina. It is now 2:30.

At 3:00, the cycle started again. This time it only lasted 30 minutes. Another load of laundry, another time of scrubbing the bucket and by 3:30 I was back in bed.

After all of this, I had to get up at 6:30 to go to work. Fortunately, I only had to go in for a meeting, then I went home. What do I find when I get there, The Better Half's sinuses are burning worse, and La Nina had the runs. I call both doctors and make plans to get then around. La Nina's doctor said it was more than likely something she ate, and that it should pass by the end of the day. Fortunately this was true.

Better Half's doctor was more concerned, saying that it appeared she had an allergic reaction the antibiotics she had started taking the day before. She was immediately switched to another drug, and given a steroid prescription to take to help the sinus inflammation.

Luckily, things are somewhat back to normal now. We just have to get ready for My Better Half's Dad and Stepmom to visit us from Colorado this next week. Joy, joy, joy. I spent today cleaning out the garage, which he had helped me organize last summer when they were here. I also mowed the lawn, cleaned out the street gutters, and pressure washed most of the house.

There was a bright spot this week, though. I got a pre-annual review from my boss. I get my real review in a couple of weeks, but as I asked him about a position I saw open in the company, he went into a little detail with me. I case I haven't mentioned it before, I have had this job for about a year now. He told me that I have have made some very good headway in my job, and that I had learned a lot. He said I had beat his expectations for how I would do this last year. Unfortunately he said he thought I was still about a year away from being ready for the next level, though. He did say that he thought I could go very far in this company, and that he was looking forward to being able to say that he was the one that hired me. He is a straight shooter, so I will take him at his word. I guess all I can do is look at the positive, and work on the other.

I will try to do a better job of posting in the future.
