Like A Girl I Once Knew.
When I was a junior in high school, I asked a girl to the prom two weeks before the dance. She told me she would go with me if this other guy didn't ask her. I was young and stupid, and thought I had a shot, knowing this other guy liked someone else.
Four days before prom, she told me she would go with me. I made plans for dinner forked over $20 for a very nice corsage. I spent over an hour shining my shoes, and making sure my suit still fit me.
The day before the prom, she called to tell me that the other guy had asked her out last minute, and she really wanted to go with him. That left me out of the picture and it was too late to ask anyone else. I got to sit at the table with the rest of the losers that couldn't get a date for the dance.
Today felt kind of like that. I heard back from the company that I interviewed with a few weeks back. They liked me, had told me at the time they would like to bring me back for a second interview, but it would take a couple of weeks to get to that point.
I found out today they decided to bring back two other applicants for second interviews, and that I was their third choice. (Cover your ears for this one) That was a real kick in the nuts for me. I felt deflated all day.
I suppose I should look on the bright side, and say that out of 10 interviews, I was their third choice. But I had started to get my hopes up for the job.
He did say that I may still get an interview, and he would like to keep me in mind for future openings. So I guess it isn't all bad.
Maybe it will end up like the junior prom. Because I was so mad at the guy that stole my date, a week later I asked out the girl that he had wanted to go to prom with and we dated for about 3 months. He and I never really got along after that.
Later,
Deej

Listen Deej, as difficult as these moments (days) are to endure, the positive facts are you had a good interview with a company you'd really like to work for. The job may not be there today, but that meeting got them interested. Drop that man a line after the New Year to say hello and in the process force him to think of you. Who knows who he might know...you know? Just keep putting that good energy out there.
